Maximising the use of space through extensive renovation

Fläkt Woods had clear criteria for the usability of the logistics centre.

We were looking for a facility with a free height of more than five metres, a continuous floor area without partitions or other restrictions, and a large yard for lorry traffic and loading. To ensure accurate deliveries, we must be able to use each cubic metre as efficiently as possible and internal logistics, like forklift traffic, must run seamlessly."

Located in Rydönnotko in Turku, Finland, the facility used to serve as a central warehouse for Kesko. It has more than 10,000 square metres of production, storage and office facilities and a yard area of more than 9,000 square metres. To maximise the use of space, Logicor dismantled the refrigeration equipment used by the previous tenant. This included the wall structures that divided the refrigeration facilities into sections, as well as compressors, condensers and expanders.

The large paved and fenced yard enabled Fläkt Woods to centralise all of its warehouse operations in one logistics centre.

Extensive alterations were carried out at the site. The facilities were converted from refrigerating rooms into warm storage spaces. Urethane was removed from a large section of the roof, ventilation and smoke extraction systems were installed, along with two air supply units and the necessary partitions were built. The sprinkler pipes on the ceiling were replaced and expanded to cover all of the storage shelves. We also replaced the roofing surface, installed additional insulation in the roof and replaced the light fixtures in the yard with LED lights."

All operations on one level
